Timothy Dale "Tim" Cooper
Big Stone Gap, Va.-Timothy Dale “Tim” Cooper, 76, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Tim was born and raised in Lynch, Ky., and had lived in Big Stone Gap since 1987. Early on, he worked as a coal miner. After returning to school and graduating with a bachelor degree, Tim became a registered nurse, having served at Norton Community Hospital, Lonesome Pine Hospital and Bristol Select Specialty. Tim played the piano and was known far and wide for his talent. He played with Bread and Butter, Paradise, The Centrals, Righteous Revival, Highway 119, the house band at The Opry in Norton, Va. and the Jerome Street Ramblers. He even had the chance to play with Jerry Lee Lewis. He taught piano to many beginners in the area. Tim was an ordained minister. He was a member of the Cornerstone House of Prayer in Big Stone Gap.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Carlos (Rose) Cooper; and a brother, Louie Cooper.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Pat Cooper; two sons, Phillip Cooper, of the home, and Timothy Cooper and wife Krista, of Big Stone Gap; six grandchildren, Dylan, Austin, Lauren, Emily, Nicholas and Ethan; two great grandchildren, Claire and Avery; two sisters, Brenda Cooper and husband Rocky, of Big Stone Gap, and Carole Carpenter, Huntington Beach, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 5:00pm - 7:00pm Friday, August 9, 2024, at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Ave., W., Big Stone Gap, Va. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 7:00pm with Rev. Bud Kilbourne and Rev. Eddie Kilbourne officiating.
