Big Stone Gap, Va.-Sherman Scarberry, Jr., 91, passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at home.
He was born in Thacker, W. Va. He was a carpenter, by trade. Mr. Scarberry proudly served in the U. S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace (Estep) Scarberry; and his parents, Sherman and Ollie (Blankenship) Scarberry, Sr.
Surviving are his daughter, Patricia Scarberry and husband, Darrell King, Sr., Big Stone Gap; one grandson, Matthew “Matt” Fields; and a sister, Kathleen Watkins, Birmingham, Ala.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1:30pm on Friday, Sept. 24, 2021, at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens with Pastor Mike Sampson officiating. The Virginia National Guard Honors Team will honor the family by folding and presenting the flag.
The family and friends will meet at the cemetery by 1:20pm on Friday.
