June Smith Dickenson
Big Stone Gap, VA-June Smith Dickenson, 83, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020, at University of Tenn. Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of the Crackers Neck community and had lived at Douglas Lake in Dandridge, TN for the past five years. June was a cook with Powell Valley High School and the Mutual Pharmacy. She loved bluegill fishing. She was a member of Durham’s Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in Crackers Neck and served as treasurer for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Edith (Minor) Smith; and a sister, Debbie Phillips (Roger).
Surviving are her husband of 61 years, Lowell Dickenson; three daughters, Kim Blanken (Brian), Big Stone Gap, Carmen Talley (Danny), Murfreesboro, TN, and Cindy Hayden (Hershiel, Jr.), Duffield, VA; four grandchildren, Melissa Barczak (Jeff), Randi Jackson (Josh), Travis Kilgore and Charley Borum (Anthony); five great grandchildren, Brayden, Ava, Slate, Hailey and Eli; sisters, Nell Bolling (Allister), Franklin, OH, Ann Gilley (John) and Sandra Bowman (Kenneth), Big Stone Gap; brothers, Elmer Smith (Nancy, deceased), Gulfport, MS, Darise Smith, Longdale, OK and Mitchell Smith (Sandee), Rockledge, FL; several nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, Glenda Southers and Nancy Oney; and brother-in-law, Garry Dickenson.
The family will receive friends from 1pm to 3pm Sunday, January 12, 2020 at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Avenue, W., Big Stone Gap. The funeral service will follow at 3pm with the Rev. Jonah Ray Shoop and Greg Shoop officiating.
Burial will follow at Barker Cemetery in the Crackers Neck community. Pallbearers will be: Brian Blanken, Danny Talley, Jeff Barczak, Brayden Barczak, Chad Dickenson, Hunter Dickenson and Hershiel Hayden, Jr.
