Edna Maxine Shelton

Big Stone Gap, Va.-Edna Maxine Shelton, 102, went to be with the Lord Thursday, February 15, 2024, at her home.
Born in Knox County, Ky., she also lived in Brookside, Ky., Kingsport, Tenn., and had lived in Big Stone Gap since 1965. She loved to read and sew, but her dedication to her Lord and church was most important. She was saved at Ages (Ky.) Baptist Church, served and worshiped at Missionary Baptist Church in Woodway, Va., where her husband served as pastor for over 30 years, and most recently had been a member of First Baptist Church in Big Stone Gap. Mrs. Shelton loved her family and sharing life’s experiences, and loved entertaining and all who visited her home. She loved to pamper people with a good meal.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Shelton; her daughter, Charlotte Shelton; her son, George Remus Shelton; a granddaughter, Denise McGinnis; her parents, Willie and Dora (Brooks) Anderkin; siblings, Renus Anderkin, Reva Blakley, Elmer Anderkin, Viola Trammell, Odessa McConnell, Geneva Bergman, Dolly Eades, Shelby Anderkin, Faye Greer and Bill Anderkin; daughter-in-law, Polly Shelton; and two sons-in-law, David Arch and Ronald Castle.
Surviving are her children, Alvin Shelton and wife Frances of Charleston, W. Va., Doris Arch Smith and husband Paul, and Sandra Castle, both of Big Stone Gap, Va.; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Hubbs and husband Graddie of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Nell Roark and husband Virgil of New Lebanon, Ohio; special caregiver, Missy Taylor and several nieces and nephews and extended family.
The family will receive friends from 11:00am – 1:00pm Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Ave, W., Big Stone Gap, Va. The service will follow at 1:00pm with Pastor Rick Phillips and Dr. Garrett Sheldon officiating.
Burial will follow at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.
The family will serve as pallbearers.
