Big Stone Gap, Va.-Betty Clara (Chandler) Swinney, 88, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023, at the home of her daughter.
She was a beautician for 15 years and then dedicated her life to her family. She cherished and loved her family more than anything else. Betty was a member of Cedar Ridge Freewill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Swinney; an infant baby girl; parents, Clyde and Henrietta (Gilley) Chandler; brother, Arthur Eugene Chandler.
Surviving are her daughter, Vicky Chandler (Troy); son, Pat Swinney (Jessica), both of Big Stone Gap; step-sons, Stewart Swinney and Donald Swinney; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Greta Collier, Jonesborough, Tn.; and special friends, Orpha Chandler and Anita Phillips.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of the Southwest Virginia Cancer Center, Norton, Va., for their love and care.
The family will receive friends 12:00pm – 1:00pm Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Avenue, W., Big Stone Gap. The service will follow at 1:00pm with Brother Adam Swinney officiating.
Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, East Stone Gap, Va.
Pallbearers will be: Pat Swinney, Owen Swinney, Kolton Stidham, Cody Barker, Troy Chandler and Robbie Chandler. Honorary pallbearers will be: Waylon Barker, Jerred Mink and Kaleb Mink.
