Hobert Ray Delph, 85, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at Indian Path Medical Center, Kingsport, TN.
Ray was a retired coal miner with the Westmoreland Coal Co. with 20 years of service, and also worked in and around coal mining for several more years with different companies. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. He and his wife, Emma, attended the First Apostolic Church and the Bible Church of God, both in Appalachia, Va. He was a 50-year member of the Appalachia Masonic Lodge #229. He loved singing in church, fishing and working on cars.
He was preceded in death by his son, Wayne Delph; parents, Hobert and Mary (Herron) Delph; brothers, Buford Delph, Curt Delph, Ken Delph, and Jerry Delph; and his sister, Lorene Honeycutt.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Emma Delph; daughter, Regina Moore of Church Hill, TN; daughter-in-law, Theresa Delph of Kingsport, Tn.; grandchildren, Adam Delph, Nikki Parker, Joshua Moore, Tara Moore and Tabitha Moore; great grandchildren, Austin Delph, Arron Delph, Andrew Delph, Abbey Booth and Ethan Booth; sister, Louise Henegar of Big Stone Gap, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Gilliam Funeral Home (618 Wood Ave., W.) in Big Stone Gap.
The funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor John Varner officiating.
A masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, just prior to funeral service.
Military graveside rites by the Va. National Guard Honors Team and local V.F.W. and D.A.V. posts will be held 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Committal graveside will be held 11 am Saturday at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
