Duffield, VA – Christopher Wren Smith, (Smitty), 74 passed away, Saturday, August 25, 2018 while visiting Lake Lure, NC. Chris was born in Norton, VA, April 6, 1944. He was preceded in death by his parents, C. Harold Smith and Rosamond Wren Smith, and infant brother, Louis W. Smith.
Chris is survived by the love of his life of 41 years, Sue Hopkins Smith, wife; Sons, Dustin Smith, Duffield, VA, Jeff Smith, Una, SC; Daughters, Leslie Robinson (Mike), Dandridge, TN, Angie Smith (Randy), Hiltons, VA; Grandson, Brent Smith (Taylor), Atlanta, GA, Granddaughters, Kristen Brooks, Hiltons, VA, Emma Smith Carico, Kingsport, TN, Katie Smith Adams, SC and Kayla Brooks, Kingsport, TN; Great Granddaughter, Abby Brooks, Hiltons, VA; Sister-in-law, Anita Fisher, Appalachia, VA; Special nephews, Brandon Fisher, Nashville, TN, Justin Fisher (Barb), Lexington, KY; Great nephews, Brady Fisher, Columbia, TN and Blake Fisher, Columbia, TN; Special friends, Helen & Tom Ross, Brunswick, GA; Special cousins, Bill Wren, Mary Gwyn Allard and Martha Ford and to many friends to mention.
He graduated from Appalachia High School and attended Milligan College. Also, he was retired from Quebecor Printing, Inc. after 40 years of service.
He was known for his big smile, story telling, enjoying riding his motorcycle, loved listening to music, dancing and being the life of the party by never meeting a stranger. Chris passed away doing what he loved best, traveling and enjoying life with friends while attending the Dirty Dancing Festival in Lake Lure, NC. He served in the Tennessee National Guard, Kingsport, TN for six years having been activated to Memphis, TN when Martin L. King was assassinated.
The family will receive friends, Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Gilliam Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap, VA from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:30 PM Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:00 PM to go in the procession.
Dustin Smith, Brent Smith, Brandon Fisher, Justin Fisher, Brad Taylor and Daniel Cline will be serving as pallbearers.
