Big Stone Gap, VA – Freddie Renalda Allison, 79, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN. A graduate of West Virginia Institute of Technology (WVU) with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Freddie was first employed by Olga Coal Co. in Coalwood, WV. He worked for Westmoreland Coal Company from 1975 through 1995. Before retirement, he formed his own geothermal company, Earth Energy, which was certified through the University of Oklahoma. Freddie also served on the Big Stone Gap Town Council for 8 years. Through the years he received many certifications and awards.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Terri Gaynair and his parents, Herman and Mary Allison.
Freddie is survived by his wife, Linda Harlow Allison; his grandson, 2nd Lt Andrew Gaynair of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Tacoma, WA; son-in-law, Robert Gaynair & wife, Leigha of Salem, OR; his sister, Claudia Burdette, niece Cindy Ellis & husband Les and great-niece, Morghan Ellis, all of Gulfport, MS, and his Harlow brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Freddie is also survived by many other family members, Barbara, Angie and A.J. Orndorff, and close friends, Virgil Blevins and family.
The family will receive friends on January 1, 2018 from 1:00-2:00pm at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Ave. W, Big Stone Gap, VA. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 2:00 pm. A Family Celebration of Freddie’s Life is planned for a later date.
