Big Stone Gap, VA – On Nov. 29, 2017 Juanita Moffitt who would have been 93 years old on Dec. 23, 2017 passed away peacefully at Heritage Hall Health Care to enter her eternal home.
Juanita was born in Jacksonville, AR to Lucian G. and Dora Elizabeth Hardcastle Heard. She was married to Glen Moffitt for 63 years until his death in 2008 and served as wife, mother and homemaker in many different countries as he was transferred during his 20 years in the military. Throughout the years of their marriage they were faithful church attendees. After his retirement they lived in several different states in the USA and while residing in Big Stone Gap at different times from 1977 to 2007 they attended the Trinity United Methodist Church. Glen and Juanita moved in with their daughter, Judy Phillips, in Baskerville, VA in 2008 and since 2012 Juanita lived with daughter, Marilyn Humbert, in Big Stone Gap, VA until she entered Heritage Hall Health Care in June 1, 2017.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband and son, Donald Moffitt of Sumerduck, VA; son-in-law Steve Humbert of Big Stone Gap, VA; grandson Brian Moffitt of Sumerduck, VA; brothers Virgil and Willard Heard; and sisters Ruth Heard, Alma Stojka, Mildred Smith, Clorine Blazer, and Virginia Bush.
Surviving are daughters Marilyn Humbert of Big Stone Gap, VA and Judy and husband Ralph Phillips of Baskerville, VA; daughter-in-law Lynn Moffitt of Sumerduck, VA; grandchildren Stephen Humbert and wife Errin of Durham, NC, Nikol and husband Jonathan Hood of Ruston, LA, Christina Thomas of Woodbridge, VA, Jennifer and Dwayne Williams of Fredericksburg, VA, Julie and David Bagshaw, Fairfax Station, VA, Rebecca and Rico Wilson of Sumerduck, VA; great grandchildren William, Ella and Jack Humbert; Maggie and Henry Hood, Christopher Phillips, Lindsey Thomas, Sean and Kayden Williams, Brayden, Brook and Bradley Bagshaw, Adriana, Zachery and Nathaniel Wilson; and sister Lorine Robinson.
Graveside services will be conducted Dec. 6 at 2pm at the Quantico National Military Cemetery in Triangle, VA, followed by internment with her husband.
The family thanks all the friends and neighbors who visited, brought flowers or food and helped in the home and at the nursing home.
