Appalachia, VA, James “Jim” Lee Stacy, 60, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, November 1, 2018 at his home. Jim was born in Wise County, VA on March 22, 1958 to Wilma (Cook) VanWinkle and the late Roger Stacy. Jim was a loving father, papaw, son, and brother. He worked in the coal mines over thirty years to support his family. He was an avid outdoorsman and could be found most days hunting, fishing and digging ginseng. He especially enjoyed going on fishing trips and spending time with his boys.
In addition to his father, Jim was proceeded in death by his sister, Lisa Stacy and step-father, Jessie VanWinkle.
Along with his mother, Wilma, Jim leaves behind his sons, Josh Stacy and wife, Jennifer, Devin Stacy and fiancé, Haley; grandsons, Mason and Bryson Stacy all of Kingsport, TN. Also surviving him are sister, Connie (Stacy) Head and husband, Robert of Big Stone Gap, VA, nephew, Matt Gilliam and wife, Jessica of Appalachia, VA; uncle, Walter Cook of Big Stone Gap, VA; and his longtime companion, Sheila Jo Witt.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 7, 2018 from 11:00 to 1:00pm at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Avenue, Big Stone Gap, VA 24219. Funeral services will follow with Pastor Garrett Lee officiating. Burial will follow at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens, 5650 Powell Valley Rd. Big Stone Gap, VA. Those serving the family as pallbearers are Robert Head, Danny Head, Jimmy Gibson, Steve Messer, Robert Martin, Josh Stacy, and Devin Stacy.
